Field Trip Time! Come Take a Tour of Planting Justice’s Nursery Operation in Oakland
Saturday, July 15, 2023
Many of you met Sal Mateo, the Co-Director of Planting Justice, in April when he visited church. He is excited to give us a tour of their operation in East Oakland. We will find out about their plans for the future as they expand to another nursery site. The nursery is one of the most successful permaculture plant nurseries in the world, with national clientele and the largest, most biodiverse collection of certified organic edible tree crops in North America… 1,100 varieties!
They also have committed to a partnership with the Sogorea Te’ Land Trust, dedicating a portion of their site and transferring ownership back to the stewardship of Ohlone people. This is the first project of its kind in the Bay Area.
Click here to sign up for the trip. We will meet at church at 9:45 and carpool to the site. (You are welcome to drive yourself but please do sign up so we have an accurate headcount.) The tour will take approximately 1 ½ hours. Be sure to wear appropriate footwear—closed toe shoes with rubber soles are best. Children are welcome with supervision.
Sal requested that each person attending fill out a liability/media release waiver. We will have forms available at church and Sal will have them on-site as well.
If you have any questions please contact Teri Kennedy. Her contact info is in the directory.
