Ongoing Opportunities to Help in our Wider Community
From the Justice / Outreach Team:
The Alameda Warming Shelter (located at Christ Episcopal Church) is still operating daily. They have had a drop-off in volunteers to help out during the day. There are 2 shifts: 8-12 and 12-4, and there are 2 volunteers per shift. The shelter will be open through April 30 so please consider volunteering for a shift or two. You will receive a brief training when you arrive. During the day many residents are out so it is usually quiet. Signups for volunteers are HERE.
A young Honduran family seeking asylum are being resettled in Alameda. There is a “meal train” signup for them HERE. The family consists of Sindy and Michael, their newborn son Jacob, and Sindy’s sister Linda. Linda fled Honduras first, because as a transgender woman she was in fear for her life. They like all kinds of food and are open to trying new things.
Feel free to contact Teri Kennedy if you’d like more info.
