Book Talk with Karin Jensen, author of “The Strength of Water”

In honor of Asian/Pacific American Heritage Month, church member Karin Jensen will host a talk about her new book on Sunday, May 7, at 12:15pm in the Fellowship Hall. The Strength of Water is an Asian American memoir of her mother’s life, spanning nearly a century, that touches on themes of identity, racism, and stereotypes while offering exquisite period details of immigrant life in the U.S. and third-world conditions in China. It is a story of dual identity and life on the margins, revealing the humanity behind the stereotypes of Chinese American laborers, how they lived, and what they felt. This will be a 30-minute talk followed by questions afterward. The book is also available on Amazon and Books, Inc.. On May 11, at 7:00pm, she will have a book signing at Books, Inc., where she would love to welcome FCCA friends. Half her proceeds from Books, Inc. sales will be donated to Shelter in Peace, the Alameda non-profit providing transitional housing and rent assistance for immigrants and refugees.
