Weddings

Ceremony Planning and Ministerial Support

Rev. Laura Rose or Rev. Lacey Hunter will work with you to create a ceremony that celebrates your relationship and honors your spirituality, wherever you find yourself on life’s journey. Reflective of our progressive understanding of the Christian faith, we offer traditional, interfaith, and alternative ceremonies. In addition, as bold advocates of marriage equality, we welcome gay and lesbian couples who are seeking to honor their relationship and their spirituality with a sacred ceremony. We enjoy working with couples to craft a service that combines the use of ritual, prayers, and music in creative ways. Generally, the couple comes to the pastor’s office for two sessions, each an hour and a half long. During this time, we will get to know your history as individuals and as a couple and discuss your hopes and dreams for the future. We will offer you several wedding planning resources and work with you to put together a ceremony that is personal and meaningful.

Organ or Piano Music

Organ and piano accompaniment are available upon request. Our musicians will work in consultation with you and in coordination with the minister and wedding coordinator to assist you integrating music into your ceremony.

Wedding Coordination

First Congregational Church of Alameda offers wedding coordination to assist in creating a beautiful, memorable, and sacred ceremony. Our Coordinator serves as liaison between the couple, church, and minister focusing on ceremony arrangements, decoration, and rehearsal. We can facilitate the choreography and ensure that the ceremony will run smoothly and on schedule. Our sanctuary allows for a traditional wedding march down a center aisle, or both members of a couple may wish to emerge from separate doors located at the back of our chancel. This second option offers a unique and dignified alternative to any ceremony. The couple is welcome to secure their own coordinator, in which case ours will act as representative for the church.
