The United Church of Christ is a church of many firsts, such as the first to ordain a woman (1853) and an openly gay man (1972), and remains active in the movement for abolition (since 1700) and civil rights (since 1950s).
In 1987, we became the 15th UCC congregation nationwide to declare ourselves “Open and Affirming” of all LGBTQIA+ persons.
