August Communion Offering: Bread for the World
Bread for the World is a Christian advocacy organization whose vision is a world without hunger. Their mission is to educate and equip people to advocate for policies and programs that can help end hunger in the U.S. and around the world. They are well known in Washington for their lobbying and advocacy work. They have fought to continue the SNAP benefits program in the US, extend the Child Tax Credit, and supported Feed the Future, which is a program operated by the US Government in developing countries where many go hungry.
Bread for the World was particularly instrumental in getting the Global Malnutrition Prevention and Treatment Act (GMPTA) to pass in September 2022, which will assist millions around the world with access to nutrition. Our church participated in writing letters urging Congress to pass it. The passage of GMPTA happened because of Bread advocates and demonstrates the need for similar concerted efforts to drive legislation such as the Farm Bill in 2023 and beyond.
On August 6, our Communion offering will go to Bread for the World. We are proud to support their advocacy efforts with our donations and our actions. We will also be participating in the offering of letters after church, during Fellowship. All are welcome to use their website, www.bread.org, to email members of Congress instead of writing a letter.
Finally, all donations to Bread for the World are currently being triple-matched. Please be as generous as you can with your gift. You may give via check, cash, or Tithe.ly.
