From the Editor: Do Stones Feel?
Dear friends,
This Sunday in worship we will hear reflections from Thana Christian and Carol Graham, who this year serve as our church’s Delegates to the Northern California-Nevada Conference.
As part of their service as Delegates, Thana and Carol attended the conference’s Annual Gathering in June. The theme of this year’s gathering was The Elephant Within. The elephant referred to the racism we all carry. Each of us carry “isms”—whether racism, ableism, homophobia, ageism, or others. Participants were invited to explore their inner Elephants and to be inspired to action.
Carol will be sharing about the Black Wealth Builders Program Resolution, which was the sole resolution presented for a vote at this year’s Annual Gathering. Submitted by the Rev. Barry Cammer on behalf of Arlington Community Church, the resolution calls on local churches to become “Black Wealth Builders congregations”: to “take action to repair the racial inequity in home buying that exists as a result of slavery, White Supremacy, personal and institutional racism, and White privilege.” The resolution was passed. Read more about the resolution and next steps in Carol’s full reflection.
Thana felt a wonderful sense of community and fellowship in attending the Annual Gathering. On Sunday, she is eager to share about her experience of the high level of diversity and inclusivity in our conference, which has been very meaningful for her. Read more about Thana’s experience at Annual Gathering.
And, mark your calendars for October 15 when Thana and Carol will be hosting a Fellowship Forum after worship to further discuss these themes.
With care,
Lisa
