Our Thanks For ...
… your generous support of local youth and families. Over the last several weeks, you have been invited to give to three worthy causes:
Backpack Drive for Building Futures
A total of 27 backpacks were donated, blessed, and delivered to Building Futures! The children at the Midway Shelter will be better prepared for the start of school thanks to you.
Special Offering to George Mark Children’s House
Collectively, we donated $355 to George Mark, a pediatric palliative care center in San Leandro. The care they provide is life-changing, allowing medically fragile children and their families to be together in a homelike, supportive, and nurturing environment. George Mark combines all facets of pediatric palliative care: specialized symptom management, clear and sensitive communication, psychosocial and spiritual counsel, child life services, and, when needed, bereavement support. They also offer much-needed respite for families of children with complex medical needs.
Back-to-School Supplies for Two Immigrant Families
In last week’s Tidings, we announced that the FCCA Accompaniment Team is working with Shelter in Peace to assist two immigrant families starting their lives here in the Bay Area. Sindy from Guatemala and Irma from Mexico each have two children and met in a homeless shelter in Oakland. Shelter in Peace has provided them with a furnished unit here in Alameda, and the FCCA team is working to help them find long-term affordable housing and employment.
When it came to our attention that the families needed help with school supplies and clothes to start off the new school year, we asked for contributions, and in just a few days, FCCA stepped up. Altogether, we received donations totaling $500! The Accompaniment Team has provided the two families with $100 gift cards each. We are reserving the remainder for future needs. Thank you! One final note, if anyone needs help with short-term jobs such as housekeeping or light gardening so one or both of the women can start earning something sooner, let a member of the Accompaniment Team know, and we will connect you.
