The Pastor’s Offering: One Fish, Two Fish. Four Loaves, Five Loaves

The Pastor's Offering: One Fish, Two Fish, Four Loaves, Five Loaves

Dear Beloveds,Rev. Lacey Hunter

What does abundance feel like? What do we need in order to trust there is enough for the journey?

One fish, two fish, four loaves, five loaves,
On every journey, with each new step,
Whether a briefcase or backpack we schlep,
There will be loaves and fishes to spare
Blessed and broken, given and shared

This Sunday, inspired by the collective miracle known as “the feeding of the five thousand,” and a little Dr. Seuss wisdom sprinkled in, we will gather at the communion table to be nourished and to become nourishment for the world. We will also celebrate our annual Blessing of the Backpacks: those being donated to Building Futures’ shelter as well as your backpacks, briefcases, and all that you carry on the journey of loving and blessing others.

As the Gospel story reminds us, when we come together, each showing up as we are able, there is more than enough nourishment and love to fill the world. In this spirit, our communion fellowship will continue downstairs during Fellowship Time where you will find art supplies and writing materials to assist you in writing letters to Congress in support of Bread for the World. May this act be one way that we embody the good news of two fish, five loaves, and all were fed.

in communion, rev. lacey
