Dear Ones,
I know you have likely cycled through all sorts of emotions in the past day or so. I know for me, shock was number one on this list. Not only shock at the results of the election, but, even more, shock over how quickly the results became clear and definitive. No recounts. No wait to see how close it would be.
Not only are we facing the reality of a President with values that are diametrically opposed to all we stand for, but we are faced with the reality that so many more of our fellow Americans do not have the same fundamental values that we do. This is disconcerting to say the least.
The only way we can move forward is to first let it all sink in and to feel what we feel and find the support we need. To this end, I hope you will make it a priority to be at church on Sunday to find both the comfort and hope we need for the days ahead. During the service, we will explore the theme, Sink, So As to Rise. Indeed, it is only by embracing the depth of what we feel that we will be able to find the strength, resilience and courage we will need to rise and act in ways that boldly affirm the values we hold dear.
As I began to process the shock of the election results, I began to focus one thing that I know will be true. Now, more than ever, we as a progressive community of faith have a reason to be. We will be needed. We will be called upon in the days ahead like never before. People will be thirsting for the good news we have to share. We will be called to continue being the boldly inclusive church we are. At times like this, there is no doubt that we are here for a reason. And this gives me hope.
Many Blessings,
Rev. Laura
